Nepal Trekking Permit
Every single trekker's trekking in Nepal is obliged to have a Trekking permits in most trekking areas of Nepal. Trekking in Annapurna, Langtang, and Everest require a trekking permit. This trekking permit includes national park entrances fees and conservation permit fees. The trekking permit could be obtained from any Government registered trekking offices in Kathmandu. If you are trekking through a company, then the permits will be organized by them and normally is included in the price. The permits are in the form of a paper ticket and you need summit 2 or more photographs along with your passport photocopy, which you must carry with you at all time until your trekking is over. Your permit will be checked at every park entrances and trekking routes. You are always recommended to carry your passport photocopy.
The areas and required fees are as follows for trekking:
01) Areas of Lower Dolpa: For the first 4 weeks per person US$ 10 and after 4 weeks per person US$ 20.
02) Taplejung District (Kanchenjunga Region): Areas of Olangchunggola, Lelep, Papung US$ 10 and after 4 weeks per week per person US$ 20.
03) Sankhuwasabha District (Makalu Region): Areas of Kimathanka, Chepuwa, Hatiya and Pawakhola Village Development Committee. For the first 4 weeks per week per person US$ 10 and after 4 weeks per week per person US$ 20.
04) Solokhumbu District (Everest Region): All north-west area way from Thamel to Nangpala of Namche Village Development committee. For the first 4 weeks per week per person US$ 10 and after 4 weeks per week per person US$20.
05) Rasuwa District: Thuman and Tingure per week per person US$ 10.
06) Manang District: Areas of Nar Phu and Northern area of Tilche village of Thochhe village development. Committee for September to November per week per person US$ 90 and December to August per week per person US$ 75.
07) Mugu District: Areas of Mugu, Dolpo, Pulu, and Bhangra. For the first 7 days per person the US $90 and After 7 day per person US $15.
08) Bajhang District: Areas of Kanda, Saipal,Dhuli.For the first 7 days per person US $ 90 and After 7 days per day per person US $15.
09) Darchula District: Areas of Byas Village Development Committee. For the first 7 days per person US $ 90 and after 7 days per day per person the US $15.
10) Upper Mustang and Upper Dolpo District: Upper Mustang and Upper Dolpo has to pay Us $500 or equivalent foreign currency per person for first 10 days. Likewise, the fee for per extra day per person has been fixed at the US $50 or equivalent foreign currency.
11) Gorkha District (Manaslu Area): Trekker in Manaslu Region needs to pay the US $70 for a week and Us $10 per person for each extra day during September to November. However, only US $50 is charged per trekker per week during December to August and the additional US $7 per trekker per each extra day.
12) Humala District (Kimiko and Yari): Permit fee for Humala (Simikot-Yari) has been fixed at Us $50 per person per week and the US $7 per person per extra day.

With the distinction of Nepal as a trekking destination and its growing charm, a provision of the Trekkers Information Management system (TIMS) has been implemented to ensure safety and security of the trekkers and to control illegal trekking operations.
AS trekkers entering a protected area in Nepal, you will be asked to provide some information about the dates of your trip, the itinerary, and a contact number. These data will be inserted in the visitor's database, where they can be accessed for park management purposes or in case of accidents or natural calamities, in order to inform the concerned institutions about the trekkers inside the park at any time.
TIMS cards should be collected by both individual Trekkers (FITs) and trekkers taking the service of government authorized trekking agencies.
Past experiences have revealed that difficulties were seen while carrying out rescue operations during times of accidents and natural calamities. Due to the lack of proper record system of trekkers, rescue and search missions used to face difficulties in spotting the missing trekkers. Based on the data collected through TIMS cards, however, it will be possible to know the position of a trekker in case a rescue operation is needed.
The provision of Trekkers Information Management system (TIMS) came into effect on January 1, 2008. Since then, the trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) started recording trekker's details and began issuing TIMS Card to trekkers.
NTB and TAAN signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on March 18, 2010, to implement the TIMS system in a new format from April 1, 2010. NTB and TAAN have introduced separate TIMS cards for FITs and organized groups. FITs need to have Green TIMs cards by paying Nepali currency equivalent to Us $20 per person, while those traveling in groups need to have Blue TIMs cards by paying Nepali currency equivalent to the US $10 per person. Trekkers taking the service of trekking agencies can pay a fee for TIMS card in Us dollars.
Where and how to obtain a TIMS card?
Free Individual Trekkers:
Free Individual Trekkers can obtain TIMS cards at the offices of Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu and Pokhara, TAAN Secretariat at Malegaon, TAAN Tims counter Thamel and TAAN Pokhara Secretariat in Pokhara upon filling the TIMS application firm.
Organized Trekkers: Trekking companies will collect trekkers? data and enter it into the central database and will provide trekkers with a TIMS card after paying the fee prescribed above.
Opening Hours: TIMS counter at TAAN follows regular working hours (10am-5pm) and 365 days a year.
NTB offices follow government working hours and days.
Trekking agencies open 12 hours a day seven days a week.

Why is TIMS necessary?
The following considerations have been taken into account in the process of issuing TIMS:
All important details regarding trekkers and trekking routes shall be maintained in a computerized Database Management system, which can be useful for the trekker's safety and security. In order to help carry out search and rescue operations for trekkers in case of natural calamities and other accidents by means of Authentic information service. To maintain a record system that includes personal details of trekkers, trekking area, trekking routes, handling agencies, duration etc. The data generated from the system will be useful to all concerned stakeholders such as tourism organizations, government agencies, diplomatic missions, tour operators, research institute etc.
Unauthorized trekking operations will be controlled, thus, resulting in better management of trekking service, which will not only benefit trekkers and field staff but also trekking companies and Government agencies. Occasional untoward incidents will also be better prevented. Plus, TIMS will upgrade the service standard and will contribute to better management of sustainable mountain tourism development in Nepal.
